One of the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturers has been rejected for buses by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
BYD was the only company that had submitted a proposal to supply 12-metre electric buses through the "Petropoulos SA" representative, reported News Auto.
According to Minister Christos Staikouras's decision, the government rejected BYD's proposal because its buses did not meet the technical specifications set by the tender announcement.
So, the specific Chinese company, at least for the specific buses, is out of the competition. By extension, the tender was cancelled since BYD was the only company that submitted a proposal.
Please note that the Greek company "Petropoulos SA" only represents BYD commercial vehicles and not cars in Greece.
The announcement:
We approve No. ΥIII/04-12-2023 of the Committee for the Implementation of the Open Electronic Tender regarding Section 4, which concerns the Supply of 100 simple electric city vehicles 12m with a minimum range of 135 km and their accessories, with ESIDIS 140655,1.
We accept the unanimous recommendation from 04-12-2023 (minute no. XIII) of the Competition Implementation Committee, as it is included in no. XIII of its minutes as follows:
(a) the "Proposals for Participation - Technical Bid" File of the bid of BYD ELECTRIC BUS & TRUCK HUNGARY KFT as the only remaining bidder for SECTION 4, which concerns the supply of one hundred (100) simple electric city vehicles 12m with a minimum range of 135 km and their accessories, with E.S.H.I.D.S. 140655,1, is by the requirements of the TTD and general admissible in terms of Evidence of Participation,

(b) the Technical Offer of the company BYD ELECTRIC BUS & TRUCK HUNGARY KFT regarding SECTION 4, which concerns the supply of one hundred (100) simple electric city vehicles 12m with a minimum range of 135 km and their accessories, with E.S.H. . D.S. 140655,1, is not by the requirements of the ToD and therefore inadmissible. Therefore, the only one remaining in the tender about Section 4, namely the company BYD ELECTRIC BUS & TRUCK HUNGARY KFT, is excluded from its continued participation in the Tender according to art. 2.4.6 of the TTD, according to the specifics defined in minutes No. XIII, without grading its technical offer.
We exclude the company BYD ELECTRIC BUS & TRUCK HUNGARY KFT from continuing its participation in the Tender for Section 4, which concerns the supply of one hundred (100) simple electric city vehicles 12m with a minimum range of 135 km and their accessories, with E. S.H.I.D.S. 140655.1
We are cancelling the process of entering into a public contract regarding Section 4 of the Tender concerning the "Supply of one hundred (100) simple electric city vehicles 12m with a minimum range of 135 km and their accessories" with ESIDIS: 140655.1, as defined in article 3.5 of the TTD and in article 106 par. 1a and 4 of Law 4412/2016, to which the TTD also refers, because the tender process was unsuccessful due to the rejection of the only remaining offer.
