The government has rejected the idea of holding a vote on the topic of marriage and having children for same-sex couples.

In an interview with Skai radio, spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis made it clear that while the government values the Church's perspective, it is dedicated to carrying out its policy agenda. Marinakis stated that this was one of their promises before the election. Earlier in the day, Archbishop Ieronymos, the leader of the Orthodox Church of Greece, which opposes the government's proposal for same-sex civil marriages, suggested the possibility of conducting a referendum to address the matter.
