Fritz, who is participating in the Australian Open for the eighth time, is set to face Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

The 26-year-old has now progressed to the quarter-finals in three out of the four major tournaments, reaching that stage at Wimbledon in 2022 and the US Open in 2023. Despite being a six-time tour-level winner, Fritz has never made it to the semi-finals in a Grand Slam.

With his fifth victory of the season, Fritz has improved his head-to-head record against Tsitsipas to 2-3. Tsitsipas, who was the finalist in Melbourne last year, was overtaken by Fritz in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings, as the American climbed one spot to No. 9.

Fritz displayed an impressive performance in the match, hitting 50 winners and making only 19 unforced errors, while Tsitsipas finished with a 41/33 record. The American now boasts a 14-7 record at the Australian Open, earning more wins at this major than any other player.

Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has lost his last five matches against top 20 opponents. If Alex de Minaur manages to defeat Andrey Rublev on Sunday evening, Tsitsipas will drop down to No. 11 in the Pepperstone ATP Live Rankings. The Greek player was last ranked outside the top 10 in February 2019.
