Giorgos Hatzinasios' new opera "El Greco" at the Athens Concert Hall

Giorgos Hatzinasios

Which established artists are participating in the show?

A musical spectacle with digital projections that transport the spectators to the visual universe of the leading painter Dominikos Theotokopoulos is the new opera by Giorgos Hatzinasios, "El Greco", which will be presented for four nights, on February 13, 15, 17 and 20, at the Athens Concert Hall.

The work narrates the journey of Theotokopoulos from his birthplace, Crete, to Italy and then to Spain. In this journey, the great Greek painter looks behind the forms for the divine breath, which is hidden in every existence and wishes to be reunited with the Creator.

This three-act opera is by no means a historical documentary of El Greco's life. It is a work that deals with the course of the search. Not only of Greco but also of every artist throughout time.

For this reason, the spatio-temporal becoming is not watertight, thus allowing the "meeting" of Dominikos Theotokopoulos both with another great Cretan, Nikos Kazantzakis, and with the vision of the mythical Icarus as the personification of the search for freedom and internal light.
