Inflation fell to 3.2% in January in Greece from 3.7% in December 2023, according to Eurostat's preliminary data. In the Eurozone, it was 2.8%.

Among the main components of euro area inflation, food, alcohol and tobacco are expected to have the highest annual rate in January (5.7%, compared to 6.1% in December).

This is followed by services (4.0%, flat compared to December), non-energy industrial goods (2.0%, compared to 2.5% in December) and energy (-6.3%, compared to -6.7% in December).

Retail sales volume was down 5.2% in November.

Retail sales volume fell 5.2% in November 2023, with sales falling across the majority of store categories in the month, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Wednesday.

More specifically, turnover fell 5.4% in bookstores, 4.3% in fuel-lubricants, 2.5% in supermarkets, 2.1% in clothing-footwear, 1.8% in department stores and 0.4% in pharmaceuticals-cosmetics. On the other hand, sales rose 1.4% in food-alcohol-tobacco and home equipment (0.1%).

The retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) fell 5.2% in November 2023 compared with the same month in 2022, while the seasonally adjusted index rose 1.6% in November from October 2023.

The retail sales turnover index (turnover in current prices) rose 0.6% in November compared with November 2022, with the seasonally adjusted index rising 2.1% in November from October 2023.
