Detailed Presentation of the Results

(a) "Top Universities by Top Google Scholar Citations"

On January 24, 2024, the results of the global ranking "Top Universities by Top Google Scholar Citations" by Webometrics were announced. The specific ranking, which is published twice a year (January and July), is compiled based on the number of citations of the research work of the professors and researchers of the Institutions. Cross-references are located through the most popular academic literature search engine, Google Scholar. The cross-reference data were collected in the period 1-20 January 2024.

Based on the results announced by the Ranking the E.K.P.A., it is ranked 89th worldwide among the 5565 institutions included in the current ranking and 16th in Europe. This ranking, published for the 17th time, includes all 24 Greek Universities (see Table 1). Based on the specific data, in addition to this high position at the global level, our Foundation is also in first place among Greek institutions, with 4,285,020 citations. This performance gives E.K.P.A. 1st place both among the Universities of Southeast Europe and among the Universities of the Mediterranean.

A particularly impressive element is that the number of cross-referrals of the E.K.P.A. covers 28.5% of all cross-references of the 24 Greek universities included in the ranking. The total number of cross-references of the 24 Greek Universities in the current ranking is 14,999,181.

(b) "Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities"

The second important distinction for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens came based on the results of the global ranking of Universities, "Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities", which was published on 31/1/2024.

According to the publication of the Ranking, the E.K.P.A. is in 247th place worldwide among 12,000 Universities, rising five places compared to last year's corresponding ranking. Based on the results of the said ranking, the E.K.P.A. is in 55th place among the 3483 Universities of the European Union and respectively in 1st place in Greece among the Greek Universities included in the ranking (see Table 2).

In the context of this ranking, universities are evaluated with criteria that mainly concern their presence and popularity on the World Wide Web, the participation of the institution in the open scientific standards of the World Wide Web through the number of documents catalogued in Google Scholar, the impact of the research projects like this is reflected in the total number of cross-citations of the articles and publications of their professors and researchers, but also in the percentage of their publications, which is in the 10% of the most "read" and important publications worldwide.

The above table is considered one of the most valid ranking tables worldwide because it is based on data directly verifiable on the internet and not on indicators based largely on interviews, questionnaires and "opinion surveys", which are in some cases possessed by bias or subjectivity.

(c) "Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities"

The next ranking in which the E.K.P.A. achieved significant distinctions is the internationally recognised ranking table "Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities".

It is one of the most important global rankings, which is based on and evaluates the quality, quantity and effectiveness of the research work of Institutions worldwide. The E.K.P.A. occupies the 1st position among the eight (8) Greek Universities included in the specific ranking table and the 211th position worldwide (see Table 3).

The "Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities" evaluation is based exclusively on the research work produced and published in each Institution, on the impact achieved by the published works of its faculty members and researchers, as well as in the final special distinction and recognition they receive as publications with a high impact.

In addition, this evaluation captures both the short-term and long-term performance of the universities in research so that an institution's position is not affected by a single year's opportunistically good performance.

Rankings like this one are particularly important because they are not influenced by the resources allocated to research purposes, by the education infrastructure and the individual achievements of faculty members, but by the long-term and high-level and consistent scientific research that takes place in Universities such as E. K.P.A.

(d) Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

Announced on October 27, 2023, by Shanghai Jiaotong University, as part of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) activity, the individual rankings for 2023 of Universities worldwide, in every wider scientific area and for special academic subjects.

The Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is the Shanghai "list". Again this year, the ranking results reserved important distinctions for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

More specifically, the Foundation for 2023 has 15 participants in the top Universities of each academic category out of a total of fifty-four (54) categories. These 15 academic subjects correspond to 13 Departments of the Foundation against 10 Departments in 2022 (see table 6).
