4.7 Richter scale earthquake off Corfu

An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred off Corfu with the epicentre located 31 kilometres south-southwest of the island of Othoni.

Specifically, the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens announced that today, at 07:20 Greek time, the seismological network recorded a weak seismic tremor with a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at a distance of 428 km SW of Athens.

The epicentre of the tremor is located in the sea area 31 km NNW of Othoni

Othoni  is a small inhabited Greek island in the Ionian Sea, located northwest of Corfu, and is the westernmost point of Greece. It is the largest and most populated of the Diapontian Islands. Since the 2019 local government reform it is part of the municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands.
