ANTALYA, Turkey—According to tourism experts, Several Greek islands are expected to be the top foreign destination for Turkish holidaymakers during the upcoming nine-day Eid al-Fitr holiday, thanks to a new visa-on-arrival program starting April 1st.

Recep Yavuz, head of the Antalya City Council Tourism Working Group, announced the news and stated that preparations are finalized on seven of the ten islands so tourists can obtain visas upon arrival. Ferry services and police units are ready to handle the increased traffic.

Yavuz cautioned travellers about the potentially quieter tourism season in April, with some closures or renovations possible in certain areas. He emphasized the need for proper documentation and the €60 (around $65) visa application fee.

"Visa applications can be made upon arrival, with documents prepared beforehand for submission at the consulate," Yavuz explained. He also provided details on ferry transportation costs between islands and accommodation expenses.

"Ferry travel between islands can range from €40-80 depending on the day and time. Budget €50-70 per person per day for bed and breakfast in a good four-star hotel. Higher and lower options are available, of course," Yavuz said, adding that eco-tax fees may apply for some accommodations.

Yavuz shared that among the ten islands offering visa-on-arrival, Lesbos, Chios, Kos, Rhodes, and Kastellorizo have seen the highest demand for the upcoming holiday period. He estimates around 16,000 to 17,000 Turkish citizens are planning vacations during Eid al-Fitr, with the potential to reach 20,000 due to last-minute decisions. Factors like proximity, affordability, visa convenience, and short travel times (as low as 25-30 minutes) are driving interest.
