The General Directorate of Defense Equipment and Investments has had Greece's request for the supply of F-35 fighter jets' letter of acceptance (LOA) since Wednesday morning.

The document was received by the American embassy's Defence Cooperation Office (ODC) in Athens on Tuesday before being forwarded to the relevant services of the National Defense Ministry.

Upon receipt of the letter, a 60-day timeline is initiated for the signing of the relevant contracts. Sources suggest that the interstate agreement (FMS) is likely to be finalized just before the European elections, as the LOA expires on June 9th.

The Hellenic Air Force is due to take delivery of the first F-35 in 2028.
