The Original MasterChef Trio: George Calombaris, Matt Preston, and Gary Mehigan Set for a Comeback

Our highly anticipated chef series is hosting its third sell-out event, “Friends of George”. Prepare to embark on a culinary journey as we bring together some of Australia’s finest chefs alongside our Culinary Director, George Calombaris.

Former MasterChef judges George Calombaris, Matt Preston, and Gary Mehigan are reuniting for a special event. The trio, known for their roles as the original judges on Channel 10's popular cooking show, will join forces for the Friends of George event at Hotel Sorrento.

"This is the first time we've been back together in Australia," Calombaris told the Herald Sun. A portion of each ticket sold for the event will be donated to Bowel Cancer Australia, a cause close to Calombaris's heart.

On November 12, guests at Hotel Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula will be treated to dishes prepared by the renowned chefs. Ticket prices are set at $169 per person, with $10 from each ticket benefiting Bowel Cancer Australia.

The reunion comes after the trio hosted a series of live events in India last year. According to reports, Mehigan, Preston, and Calombaris were involved in presenting dinners in Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi as part of a collaboration with the Conish company, a culinary business based in India.

While their departure from MasterChef in 2019 marked the end of an era, there have been hints of a new project in the works. A leaked Zoom conversation between Mehigan, Preston, and Calombaris sparked speculation among fans that the trio might be returning to television for a new show.

Despite their exit from MasterChef, Mehigan emphasized that their decision was not about money but rather about exploring new creative opportunities. The trio's tenure on the hit cooking show lasted for a decade, from 2009 to 2019, before they departed ahead of season 12.
