Swedish Teenagers Sentenced for Attempting to Remove Greek Flag in Social Media Stunt

Greek Flag Hires

Two Swedish teenagers appeared in court on Tuesday on the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes after attempting to remove the Greek flag from the front of a police station, seemingly as part of a social media stunt.

The two 19-year-olds, who were vacationing on the popular island, were immediately arrested and sent to trial. The court found them guilty of disrespecting a national symbol.

They received suspended sentences of six and seven months, respectively, meaning they will not serve prison time.

Their age reportedly contributed to the leniency of their sentences.

According to local news outlet Rodiaki, the teenagers were filming their actions for social media when they attempted to take down the flag late on Saturday night. They admitted to being drunk at the time and apologized for their behavior.
