Dimitris Basis Performs at TRAK, Melbourne - See Photos

Dimitris Basis, renowned as one of Greece’s most celebrated male vocalists, was back for his yearly rendition of “Axion Esti” by Odysseus Elytis, with musical arrangements by Mikis Theodorakis.

On Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, he played at Trak.

About Dimitris Basis

Renowned for his chart-topping singles such as “Psithiroi Kardias” and “Spasmeno Karavi,” Basis is set to enthral audiences at The Trak in Melbourne, as well as in Sydney and Brisbane.

Born in Stuttgart, Dimitris Basis first encountered Greece at the age of eight when his family returned to permanently settle in Herso, Kilkis prefecture. His first contact with singing was at the age of nine when he began chanting in the village church. At the age of twelve, he began Byzantine music lessons, which he completed at seventeen, earning his diploma.

As soon as he turned twenty, he began singing professionally, discovered by Stamatis Kraounakis, thus beginning his illustrious career filled with significant successes and collaborations! Alkistis Protopsalti, Lina Nikolakopoulou, Stamatis Kraounakis, Christos Nikolopoulos, Dimitra Galani, Manolis Lidakis, Haris Alexiou, Yiannis Kotsiras, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Mikis Theodorakis, Paschalis Terzis, Maria Farantouri, Dimitris Mitropanos, Themis Adamantidis, Melina Kana, Kostas Makedonas, Marios Fragoulis, Lena Alkaiou, and Giota Negka are some of the biggest names in the Greek music scene with whom Dimitris Basis has collaborated and had remarkable performances.

The soundtrack of the TV series "Psithiroi Kardias," composed by Christos Nikolopoulos with lyrics by Eleni Giannatsouli and performed by Dimitris Basis, was an unprecedented success, reaching 120,000 sales!
