The cultural pulse of Athens will quicken this week with four prominent musical events marking the start of the city's bustling concert season.
The week kicks off at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus beneath the Acropolis, where celebrated Greek composer Mimis Plessas, aged 99, will be honoured. Plessas, renowned as a prolific creator across genres including cinema, theatre, jazz, opera, and classical music, will be joined by esteemed artists and the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra.
In another musical highlight, Nefeli Fasouli will perform at the Peiraios 260 annexe on Monday and Tuesday as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, presenting her latest jazz album, "Phases" with the Nefeli Fasouli Quintet.
London’s prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra, led by principal conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, will grace the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on Tuesday evening. The orchestra will feature the electrifying violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja in what promises to be a captivating performance.
World Music Day on Friday will witness 13-year-old piano prodigy Elisey Mysin’s debut in Greece at the Herodes Atticus Odeon. Accompanied by the ERT National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Michalis Economou, Mysin will showcase Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, complemented by vocal contributions from the ERT Choir in pieces by Tchaikovsky and Borodin.
