Eurostat Report: Greece Sees Employment Rate Rise in Q1 2024

In the first quarter of 2024, Greece's employment rate for individuals aged 20-64 increased by 0.9 percentage points, one of the highest among EU countries, according to the latest data from Eurostat.

This rise is part of a broader trend in the EU, where the overall employment rate reached 75.7%, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase from the previous quarter.

Labour market slack, which includes unemployed individuals and others with unmet employment needs, remained stable at 11.2% of the extended labour force in the same age group across the EU.

Other notable increases in employment rates were seen in Croatia (+1.8 pp), Slovenia (+1.3 pp), and Bulgaria (+0.9 pp). Conversely, employment rates fell in 10 EU countries, with the largest declines observed in Cyprus, Estonia, and Lithuania (each -0.5 pp).

This data highlights the varying dynamics of the labour market across the EU, with Greece showing a positive trend amid broader economic challenges.
