Fire: Evacuation of Mavro Lithari – 112 Alert Sounded, “Move Towards Glyfada”

A forest fire broke out at Mavro Lithari in Saronida, Attica, on the afternoon of Friday, June 21. This led to three alerts being issued through the 112 emergency system.

The fire is believed to have started around 2:00 PM under unknown circumstances. The blaze is near the "Alexander" hotel on the coastal Sounio Avenue. Watch video footage of the fire:

Strong winds at the location are hampering the efforts of the firefighting forces. At 2:20 PM, the 112 alert system sounded, urging residents to remain prepared.

Additionally, traffic police halted circulation on Sounio Avenue from the intersection with Ilektras Street to the intersection with Minoos Street. According to a subsequent update from the traffic police, there is now a diversion on Athens-Sounio Avenue at the intersection with Karamanli Avenue. At around 2:40 PM, another 112 message was issued asking residents to evacuate towards Glyfada.

Reports indicate that a campsite within the Mavro Lithari settlement was also evacuated.

To combat the fire, 55 firefighters are deployed, including two ground units, sixteen vehicles, and three helicopters, along with personnel from the Saronikos Civil Protection.
