Greek Wildfires: Andros Blaze Rages as Salamina Fire Partially Contained

A wildfire that ignited on the island of Andros shortly after 12:00 PM continues to rage, consuming forest land in the Strapouries area. Six firefighters and two vehicles are battling the flames on the ground, while two aircraft and two helicopters are en route to provide aerial support. Authorities have issued a 112 emergency alert to residents in Strapouries.

Meanwhile, firefighters have partially contained a separate wildfire that broke out in Salamina earlier on Saturday. The blaze, which ignited in low vegetation between Galini and Agios Ioannis, is currently being fought by 22 firefighters and eight vehicles. During the firefighting efforts, a fire truck overturned, resulting in minor injuries to two firefighters who were transferred to a local health center for treatment.

In more positive news, the wildfire that began in the Mastrantoni area of Achaia on Friday and spread to Ilia is no longer considered an active front. However, firefighters are still battling scattered outbreaks in the Latta and Prodromos regions. A large contingent of 154 firefighters, supported by six ground teams, 56 vehicles, volunteers, water tankers, six aircraft, and a helicopter, remain deployed to the area.
