American Vacationers Choosing Athens for 4th of July Celebrations

Athens is set to be a popular destination for American travelers during the 4th of July long holiday this year, as revealed by data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

According to the AAA report, Athens ranks 9th among the Top 10 international destinations chosen by US travellers for the Independence Day weekend from July 3 to July 7. The top three destinations for US travellers are Vancouver (Canada), London (UK), and Rome (Italy). The complete list includes Dublin (Ireland), Paris (France), Calgary (Canada), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Athens (Greece), and Barcelona (Spain).

Additionally, insurance provider Allianz Partners forecasts a significant increase in the number of Americans travelling to Europe this summer, with a projected 34 percent rise compared to last year. Athens remains among the top destinations of choice.

The AAA report also indicates that air travel will reach new heights this year. The number of US travelers heading abroad during the holiday is expected to reach 5.74 million, marking a nearly 7 percent increase compared to last year and a 12 percent rise over pre-pandemic 2019 levels. Notably, seven out of ten Americans are opting for European destinations, with a growing interest in historic cities and beaches.
