Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

After securing big-money sales for Elliot Anderson – who’s set for a medical at the City Ground in a £35m move – and agreeing a £33m deal that will see Yankuba Minteh join Brighton, it’s emerged that the Greek stopper could be on his way to St James’ Park, as called first by Jacque Talbot.

With Loris Karius released and Martin Dubravka set to depart once he returns from Euro 2024, Newcastle need some additional cover between the sticks. They have previously tracked Vlachodimos during his time at Benfica.

His career hasn’t taken off as some expected since impressing in Portugal several years ago, but he’s likely to replace Karius as our third choice option if a deal is finalised, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that we’ve booked in a medical for his likely arrival.

The 6ft 3′ Stuttgart-born stopper represented Germany at the youth level up to their Under-21 set-up but switched allegiances to Greece, where he’s racked up 42 caps.
