Following a provocative post from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs shortly before the "black" anniversary of the invasion of Cyprus, the Turkish Ministry of Defense has made its own statement.
In a post commemorating the 50th anniversary of the invasion of Cyprus, the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated: "Don't call me so heartily; I might come suddenly one night…"
The post also wrote , "On the 50th anniversary of the 'Happy Peace Operation,' we honor with reverence, gratitude, and respect the heroic martyrs and veterans of our valiant army who put an end to the oppression experienced by our Turkish expatriates in Cyprus. Tomorrow, we expect all our Cypriot brothers to join the parade featuring the participation of 50 ships."
The Turkish Defense Ministry's post was accompanied by a video showcasing an armada and aerial vehicles approaching a coast, concluding with an image of Muhammad II the Conqueror entering Constantinople.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry's statement also included remarks about the "anniversary of the happy peace operation which it claims brought peace and tranquility to Cyprus.
"In the documentary, we include the inhuman massacres against Turks perpetrated by terrorists who aimed to annex the island to Greece, leading to the establishment of the terrorist organization EOKA in 1955.
The events that transpired before and after Operation Happy Peace are shared through the accounts of witnesses from that period. The documentary features testimonies from Greeks involved in the EOKA terrorist organization, along with historical footage from the Turkish army's operation launched on July 20, 1974.
This documentary is a tribute to our compatriots who were inhumanely murdered in Cyprus, showcasing the heroic struggle of the Mehmetsik alongside the Mujahideen. You can watch the first part of the documentary below. With mercy, gratitude, and respect for all our martyrs and veterans."
