Artist Alessandro Mutto is currently creating the statue of Jesus, which promises to be a striking addition to the city's landscape.
A monumental statue is set to be erected in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.
Following the successful opening of the first swimming pool in Jerusalem's Old City last year, Franciscan monk Father Ibrahim Faltas has unveiled his next ambitious project: a towering 10-meter statue titled "Jesus Risen." This impressive sculpture is planned to adorn the roof of the historic Terra Sancta High School.
Crafted by renowned Italian sculptor Alessandro Mutto, the statue features a combination of polychromatic steel and bronze, weighing in at 4,400 kg. Its design is intended to reflect sunlight, creating a dynamic visual experience that changes throughout the day. Mutto, who hails from Verona and is an alumnus of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, began work on this project 18 months ago.
His design has received approval from the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, based at the St. Savior complex near the New Gate.
Father Faltas has chosen not to disclose further details regarding the project's budget or funding sources.
