She named them Mythix, and we can easily recognise them from their original conical packaging in bright summer colours. The packaging features the characteristic figures of the gods of Olympus in modern designs and face cards (each package features a different god).
“The ancient Greeks were very fond of nuts, honey and dried fruits. My goal was to bring a piece of this raw food to today, utilising the agricultural treasures of my hometown but also the excellent raw materials produced in other parts of Greece,” Maria says in summarising her philosophy in a few lines of her entire venture.
With the help of her husband, an agronomist, and thanks to his specialised knowledge in cultivating the Kymi fig, Maria overcame the initial obstacles and made her dream come true.
She made bars that combined four plant proteins (cereals, legumes, nuts, and seeds) and added dried fruits (Corinthian raisins, Kymi figs, apricots, and plums from northern Greece), honey from mountainous Arcadia, and, of course, extra virgin olive oil from Kalamata.
“Their base,” Maria explained to me, is oat bran and astragali, which all contain Brazil nuts, known for their high selenium content. In addition, they are rich in fibre, manganese, magnesium, and iron and make a complete energy snack. That is why they are highly preferred by runners, riders, swimmers, and generally people who are involved in sports and love fitness.”
Five different combinations
So, entering the lure and trying some of them, I found that in addition to their raw texture bringing a pleasant chewy texture to my mouth, they also kept me full for the next 4-5 hours at least.
“It’s because all the raw materials added to our bars are ground. Nuts, fruits, seeds and legumes are all ground, both not to cause heartburn and for their nutrients to be more efficiently absorbed by the human body, releasing slow-burning energy at the same time.”
And all this, without the addition of sugar (all sweeteners come from natural fruit sugars), artificial fibre, palm oil, preservatives or salt, which, as Maria observes, “is often used in commercial bars in order to strengthen, bring out to the outside the flavours and aromas of their remaining ingredients.”
At the moment, Euphoria Meals bars are available through the company’s shop in various places in Greece (hospital and university canteens, hotels, and delicatessens), while they recently started their journey abroad in Austria and Belgium.
Their product range includes five different flavour combinations: Molasses—Cranberry, Chocolate—Coconut, Chocolate—orange, Chocolate—hazelnut, and pistachio butter, among which we easily find our favourite.
Plus, they remain unchanged at room temperature for up to 20 months, useful in case we prove to be restrained and don’t eat them one after the other in record time!
