Greece Reaffirms Commitment to 40% Film Rebate After Delay

THESSALONIKI, Greece – Greek officials sought to reassure the film industry this week, confirming the country's 40% cash rebate program will relaunch in January.

The announcement, made at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, follows a period of uncertainty after the program was suspended in May to address a backlog of over €100 million ($107 million) in outstanding payments.

The delay, initially expected to be shorter, was explained by Leonidas Christopoulos, CEO of Creative Greece, as crucial for maintaining the program's credibility with both local and international producers.

The popular incentive has been instrumental in attracting major productions to Greece since 2019, including Netflix's "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery." The reaffirmed commitment to the rebate is expected to boost confidence in Greece's growing film industry.
