British Court Allows Marinakis' Libel Case Against Greek Rival to Proceed

Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, an English Premier League soccer club, has been granted permission to continue his libel lawsuit against his Greek rival, Irini Karipidis, as ruled by London's High Court. Marinakis, who is also a prominent Greek shipping magnate, filed the lawsuit last year against Karipidis, the chair of the Greek Super League club Aris Thessaloniki. He accuses her of orchestrating a smear campaign through a website that claims he was involved in match fixing, drug smuggling, and illegally shipping Russian oil. Marinakis has vehemently denied these allegations.

Karipidis attempted to have the court halt the lawsuit, arguing that she has a "clear defence of truth" and requesting a reversal of the court's decision to allow the lawsuit to be served on her outside of England. However, Judge Richard Spearman rejected her application, allowing Marinakis' case to proceed.
