Following the eliminations of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari, attention now turns to Petros Tsitsipas.
On December 30, 2024, during the United Cup in Perth, it was announced that the Tsitsipas brothers would compete in the doubles event at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Due to their high rankings in the global doubles standings, they didn’t need to go through the qualifying rounds, allowing them direct entry into the first Grand Slam of the year.
However, on January 12, both brothers decided to withdraw at the last minute, initially leaving Greece without representation in the men’s doubles.
Stefanos explained that he wanted to focus on his singles matches.
After Stefanos was knocked out in the first round, it was revealed that Petros would continue in the doubles competition.
He will team up with 32-year-old Damir Džumhur from Bosnia and Herzegovina. They will face off against 35-year-old Australian John-Patrick Smith and his Ecuadorian partner Gonzalo Escobar on Thursday, January 16.
