Taxi drivers in Athens will stage a six-hour work stoppage today, Thursday, in protest of the new Road Traffic Code (RTC).
From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the city will be without taxis as drivers join forces to voice their concerns about the proposed legislation.
The strike, organised by the Taxi Drivers' Union of Attica (SATA), will result in significant traffic disruptions as drivers gather for a rally and march towards the Ministry of Transport. The protest aims to draw attention to key issues in the new RTC, with one of the major demands being the right for commercial taxis to use bus lanes.
The rally will begin at 9:30 AM at the junction of Spyrou Patsis and Athinon Avenue, where drivers will gather before marching to the Ministry of Transport to deliver a petition outlining their demands.
This warning strike is part of an escalating effort by the Taxi Drivers' Union to protect the interests of their sector, with the aim of influencing changes to the bill before it is finalised.
