Athens, February 14, 2025 – The Hellenic Navy is monitoring a Turkish missile boat currently operating in international waters in the Aegean Sea. The warship, which was initially spotted between the islands of Amorgos and Patmos, is now south of Tilos, heading towards Rhodes, according to reports. It has remained exclusively in international waters and did not approach Santorini.

This comes after a meeting last week by Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) concerning seismic activity originating near Santorini. Turkish media have reported on Turkey’s interest in contributing to seismic research in the Aegean, with some suggesting the possible deployment of research vessels to the area, including near Santorini.

Two Greek research vessels, one oceanographic and the other conducting seismic studies, are also operating in the area. The Hellenic Navy is maintaining constant surveillance of the Turkish missile boat using radar, observation posts, and other monitoring systems.
