On February 24, 2025, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement commemorating the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The ministry expressed deep sorrow and respect for the countless lives lost and the widespread devastation inflicted by the ongoing conflict.

The statement specifically addressed the challenges faced by the Greek diaspora in Mariupol and neighboring regions, acknowledging their suffering amidst the war and the continued impacts felt due to the violence.

Reiterating Greece's steadfast commitment to international law and the principles set forth in the United Nations Charter, the ministry condemned any acts of aggression or threats against sovereign nations.

The announcement called for an immediate halt to hostilities and the creation of a just, universally accepted, and enduring peace in Ukraine.

This position is consistent with Greece's longstanding support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, a sentiment previously articulated by Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis. During his address to the UN Security Council on September 21, 2023, Gerapetritis underscored that the Russian invasion poses a significant threat to European security, as well as global peace and stability. He reaffirmed Greece's and the EU’s commitment to stand with Ukraine in its quest for a democratic society.
