In 2014, just three NATO members were meeting the alliance’s 2% GDP spending goal. Greece was one of them, spending around 2.36% of its GDP on defense that year, alongside the United States and the United Kingdom, driven largely by tensions with Turkey.

Fast forward to 2024, and that figure has climbed to 23 out of 31 countries.

The United States remains the top spender, spending $754.7 billion, exceeding the combined defense budgets of all other NATO members.
