The Heraklion Police Department changed the charge from attempted homicide to dangerous bodily harm for the savage attack on seven Pakistanis on the Lassithi Plateau, Crete.
For the savage attack on seven Pakistanis in Crete in August 2021, seven young men, who had been remanded in custody, sat on the bench of the Mixed Assize Court of Heraklion to face charges of attempted murder and robbery, among other things.
Pakistani workers had testified that they were beaten for 7-8 minutes, with kicks, punches and sticks. They described that they even broke their teeth, while some had a gun put to their head.
One of the seven defendants was acquitted due to a lack of evidence, Creta Live reported. The remaining six were acquitted of the robbery charge.
Furthermore, the charge of attempted homicide was changed to dangerous bodily harm. The court accepted that the victims were targeted based on the country of their origin. The defendants were found guilty of the charge of damage to another’s property.
One of the defendants was additionally found guilty for shooting unnecessarily, illegal possession of a baton and weapon, and illegal use of a weapon.
Regarding the sentences imposed: one defendant was sentenced to a total prison sentence of 10 years and 2 months, another defendant was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months, and four were sentenced to a total prison sentence of 5 years.
For four, the sentence was suspended without any conditions, while for two, the suspension was granted under conditions. In particular, the two were banned from leaving Greece. The one with the longest prison sentence must also appear every month at the Police Department.
