An alleged arson attempt took place early Wednesday morning at the renowned Melissa Oakleigh Cafe, located in the bustling Eaton Mall. At least two individuals were involved in the attempt to ignite the popular Greek eatery.

Police reports indicate that the culprits managed to cause minor damage to the cafe’s outdoor section, affecting railings, tables, and chairs. Remarkably, the café remains fully operational.

Swift response from emergency services ensured that firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they posed a threat to either Melissa Oakleigh Cafe or adjacent businesses within Oakleigh’s lively “Greek precinct.”

The cafe’s proprietor, Con Tangalakis, was away in Sydney at the time of the incident.
