Ankara, Türkiye, March 25, 2025 — Türkiye formally sought clarification from Greece on Tuesday after members of the Greek Armed Forces shouted slogans during a military parade in Athens, which Ankara labeled “impertinent.” The incident, captured in widely shared footage, has stirred tensions between the two nations.

Sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry described the slogans as an unacceptable attempt to strain Turkish-Greek relations, prompting Türkiye to request an official explanation. Greek media reported that the slogans, voiced during the March 25 Independence Day parade, included insults directed at Türkiye and Turkish Cypriots.

In response, the Greek Defense Ministry acted swiftly, with the Naval Forces Command initiating a disciplinary investigation into the conduct of the involved personnel. Meanwhile, Greece’s main opposition party, the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA), condemned the remarks as “unacceptable,” urging a comprehensive probe into the matter.

The exchange underscores ongoing sensitivities in Turkish-Greek relations. Both sides are now awaiting the outcome of Greece’s internal review.
