Greece Completes Marine Spatial Planning, Unveils Official Map

Greece has finalized its Marine Spatial Planning (MSP), with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Environment and Energy announcing the release of the official map on Wednesday.

Greece has finalized its Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and released an official map, aiming to balance ecological, economic, and social objectives in its maritime areas, while Turkey vows to protect its rights in the Aegean and Cyprus.

The MSP framework seeks to regulate human activities in Greece’s marine areas, balancing ecological, economic, and social goals.

“This marks the first time Greece has set clear rules for organizing its maritime space,” the ministries stated.

Last November, the European Commission published a map affirming Greece’s maritime zones, recognizing the full legal rights of all islands, including Kastellorizo in the southeastern Aegean. Turkey’s Foreign Ministry responded by vowing to take “all necessary measures to protect our rights in the Aegean and Cyprus.”
