Deputy FM Loverdos to Bring Holy Fire from Jerusalem to Greece

Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Yiannis Loverdos, is set to travel to Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, April 19, to attend the annual Holy Fire ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, according to an official announcement from the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his visit, Deputy Minister Loverdos will meet with His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem, from whom he will receive the Holy Fire—a sacred flame symbolising the Resurrection of Christ in Orthodox Christian tradition.

The Holy Fire will be flown back to Greece on a special flight, expected to arrive at Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" around 19:00 on Saturday evening. From there, the flame will be distributed to churches and communities across the country, continuing a cherished religious and cultural tradition for Orthodox Easter celebrations.
