Following Tottenham Hotspur’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final, the future of Greek-Australian manager Ange Postecoglou has become a hot topic. Football commentator Andy Paschalidis and comedian Anthony Locascio strongly defended Postecoglou on the Ouzo Talk Podcast, arguing that sacking him would be a huge mistake for Spurs.
"The Entire World Has Galvanised Around Ange"
On the latest episode of Ouzo Talk’s ‘Ouzo Shot’ segment, Locascio highlighted the overwhelming global support for Postecoglou.
“My whole feed today is Ange,” Locascio said. “The prevailing thing is Ange—which doesn’t ordinarily happen when a team wins a tournament like this. Tottenham are going to know that. The entire world has galvanised around this person, especially Australians—especially Greek-Australians.”
Locascio pointed out that Postecoglou’s marketability and global appeal make him invaluable to Tottenham’s brand. “It’s not just Daniel Levy that makes the trigger-pulling decisions at Tottenham—there’s a whole team of people who consider things like marketability and global economics. Ange is box office. The guy said in October: ‘I win,’ and he did. It would be very ‘Spurs’y’ for them to sack him.”
Postecoglou’s Midas Touch
Paschalidis echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Postecoglou’s track record of delivering success. “He’s got the Midas touch, and success comes quickly,” Paschalidis said. *“It’s not like some managers who are given four, five, six years to perform. He seems to hit the ground running wherever he goes—it might take 12-24 months, but he delivers.”*
Despite a mixed Premier League season, Postecoglou fulfilled his promise of bringing silverware to Tottenham—a feat he previously achieved with Celtic and other clubs. Paschalidis also noted how Postecoglou’s early success at Spurs set an incredibly high bar.
“The problem for Ange always was those first three months in England. He raised the bar that high. There’s only really one way to go. It’s very hard to maintain that level of spectacular performances.”
Fan Sentiment and What’s Next for Postecoglou
Paschalidis expressed curiosity about how the media and fans will react in the coming days.
“I’m going to be very interested to see how the press now reacts to Ange over the next few days, and perhaps more significantly, the fans—they started to turn against him.”
Both Paschalidis and Locascio speculated on Postecoglou’s next move if Tottenham parts ways with him, suggesting that top clubs would be eager to secure his services.
