EuroLeague Suspends Panathinaikos Owner for Five Games

Panathinaikos’ majority shareholder, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, has been banned from attending five EuroLeague games and fined €10,000 for threatening referees during the 2025 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four semifinal loss to Fenerbahce (76-82). The incident occurred at halftime, as reported by BasketNews.

EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas called the event “unfortunate,” praising Giannakopoulos’ support for Panathinaikos and arena improvements but lamenting the confrontation. Additionally, Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman was fined €10,000 for causing an abnormal game interruption. Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, and Fenerbahce also faced fines of €10,000, €7,000, and €5,000, respectively, for offensive fan chants during the semifinals.
