Sources have informed Football Insider that Ange Postecoglou could receive a £7million payout if Tottenham decide to sack him as manager.
The Australian led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, securing the Europa League title against Manchester United in Bilbao on 21 May. This triumph earned Postecoglou a £2million bonus and guaranteed Tottenham a spot in next season’s Champions League, alongside approximately £38million in prize money.
However, Tottenham’s domestic performance has been dire, with the team finishing 17th in the Premier League after 22 losses in 38 matches. Football Insider reported on 23 May that Postecoglou’s future at the club hangs in the balance, with the board holding discussions about his position.
The 59-year-old, who earns around £5million annually and is contracted until June 2027, could receive a year’s salary plus his Europa League bonus if sacked.
Tottenham’s Decision Looms
Since joining from Celtic in 2023, Postecoglou has had a mixed tenure at Spurs. His high-pressing, attacking style earned praise in his debut season, finishing fifth in the Premier League. However, this season’s injury challenges and poor league form have drawn criticism, with Postecoglou himself calling the results “unacceptable.”
Club chairman Daniel Levy is set to make the final call on Postecoglou’s future. Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that he expects Tottenham to part ways with the manager immediately, despite the Europa League success.
Coaching Staff Shake-Up
In related news, Football Insider revealed on 24 May that Tottenham coach Ryan Mason is in talks to become West Brom’s next manager. The 33-year-old, who has served under Postecoglou, Jose Mourinho, and Antonio Conte, and previously acted as Spurs’ interim manager, is the frontrunner for the Championship club’s top job after they finished ninth this season.
