Hitchins vs. Kambosos: Fight Week Faceoff at Empire State Building

Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr. faced off at the Empire State Building in New York to kick off Fight Week for their IBF super lightweight title bout on June 14 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Unbeaten Brooklyn native Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs), defending his IBF super lightweight belt, won the title last December against Liam Paro. The 27-year-old, who previously beat John Bauza at MSG in 2023, emphasized his strategic boxing style. “It’s smart boxing, always sharp,” Hitchins said. “Kambosos has been down, schooled, and bruised. I’m different. He’ll feel it when I hit him.”

Former unified lightweight champion Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs), aiming for a title in a second division, returns to MSG, where he defeated Teofimo Lopez in 2021. The 31-year-old dismissed Hitchins’ undefeated record, stating, “I’ve fought pound-for-pound fighters, hall of famers. He’s good, but he won’t dominate.” Kambosos, 2-0 at MSG, added, “New York’s my city. I’m ready to be 3-0 and take his belt.”

In the co-feature, Andy Cruz (5-0, 2 KOs) faces Hironori Mishiro (17-1-1, 6 KOs) in an IBF lightweight title eliminator, with the winner set to challenge champion Raymond Muratalla. Undercard bouts featuring Ernesto Mercado and Alexis Barriere were canceled due to injuries.
