Israelis advised not to travel through Larnaca and Athens airports

The Israeli National Security Council has issued a travel advisory urging Israelis to not travel through Larnaca and Athens airports, as well as land crossings between Egypt and Jordan.

This cautionary measure comes in the wake of escalating regional tensions following Iran's retaliatory attacks against Israel on Saturday.

"We would like to emphasise that both Sinai (in Egypt) and Jordan are under Level 4 travel warnings, and we recommend avoiding travel to these areas," the NSC said.

The advisory specifically recommends against using the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza and the Allenby Bridge between Jordan and the West Bank. These routes have been identified as potential flashpoints due to the current security situation.

In response to the advisory, El Al Israel Airlines has announced it has suspended all flights until at least June 19. While flights from Tel Aviv to Larnaca and Athens continue, the airline is closely monitoring the situation and may adjust services as necessary. Travellers are advised to stay informed through official channels for any updates.

"Once approvals are received from the relevant security and aviation authorities, we will do everything possible to allow as many Israelis as possible to return home, gradually resume our regular flight schedule and operate rescue flights from destinations near Israel," El Al said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also emphasised the importance of adhering to the travel advisory and staying updated on the evolving security situation. Citizens are encouraged to register with the Ministry's travel registry and to exercise caution when planning international travel.
