Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia Honours Rising Scholars at 2025 Awards Dinner

Philadelphia

The Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia (HUC) held its annual Scholarship Awards Dinner on June 6 at the Arts Ballroom, celebrating a new cohort of high-achieving undergraduate and graduate students. The event marked the club’s ongoing commitment to supporting education within the Greek-American community.

This year, 20 scholarships amounting to $99,000 were awarded to exceptional students of Greek descent, as well as to individuals pursuing degrees in Greek Studies.

During a cocktail hour followed by a formal awards presentation and buffet dinner, attendees gathered to honour academic excellence and community engagement. The evening attracted over 300 friends, family members, and supporters.

This year, the Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia awarded numerous scholarships, totalling over $1 million in endowment support. Scholarships ranged from merit-based awards to financial-need grants across both undergraduate and graduate levels. Notable awards included:

  • Dr. Michael Dorizas Memorial Scholarship – $5,000
  • Founders Scholarship – $5,000
  • Dimitri J. Ververelli Memorial Scholarship – $3,000, for architecture or engineering
  • George C. Liacouras Memorial Scholarship – $5,000, for University of Pennsylvania students
  • Goldie S. Vastardis Memorial Scholarship – $2,000 for students from St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church
  • Paideia Scholarship – $5,000 for children of HUC members

Graduate-level awards included the prestigious Dr. Nicholas Padis Memorial Graduate Scholarship ($5,000), among others aimed at law, medicine, dentistry, STEM, and financial-need support.

The Scholarship Fund, now exceeding $1 million, is bolstered by fundraising initiatives throughout the year.

Applications for the 2025–2026 scholarships opened in February and closed on April 4, attracting applicants across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Awardees were selected based on academic performance, leadership, community involvement, and, where applicable, financial need.
