Panathinaikos Finalizes Loan Deal for Nantes Goalkeeper Alban Lafont

Panathinaikos has secured the one-year loan of French goalkeeper Alban Lafont from FC Nantes, with the 26-year-old expected to arrive in Athens on Wednesday night (16/7) to complete his move to the Greek club.

The agreement, finalized late Monday (15/7), does not include an option to buy, but Panathinaikos will cover Lafont’s full salary—estimated at €1.7-1.8 million gross. An informal "gentleman’s agreement" has also been established, giving the Greek side priority in negotiations should they wish to pursue a permanent transfer in the summer of 2026.

Lafont is scheduled to undergo medical tests on Thursday morning (17/7) before signing his contract. If all goes smoothly, he will be registered in Panathinaikos’ UEFA squad list later that evening, making him eligible for their Champions League second qualifying round clashes against Rangers (22nd and 30th July).

The move bolsters Panathinaikos’ goalkeeping options as they prepare for European competition, with Lafont bringing Ligue 1 and international experience to the club.
