Canberra, 12:42 PM AEST, 25 July 2025 - Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has issued a stark warning about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing it as surpassing the world's worst fears.
In a press release dated today, Albanese emphasized the Australian Government's unwavering stance: every innocent life matters, be it Israeli or Palestinian.

The conflict has claimed far too many lives, with tens of thousands of civilians dead and children facing starvation. Albanese condemned Israel's denial of aid and the killing of civilians, including children seeking water and food, as indefensible and intolerable. He urged Israel to immediately comply with international law, allowing the United Nations and NGOs to conduct their lifesaving work without hindrance.
Australia has firmly rejected any proposals for the permanent forced displacement of the Palestinian population. The nation also reiterated its condemnation of Hamas's terror and brutality, calling for the immediate release of remaining hostages. Australia continues to support international efforts to facilitate a ceasefire, recognizing that an immediate and permanent ceasefire offers the best hope of bringing hostages home and easing the agony of their loved ones.
Australia takes pride in its historical support for the creation of the modern state of Israel. However, Albanese highlighted the global community's vision of two states: Israel and Palestine. Recognizing the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for their state has long been a bipartisan position in Australia.
Unlike French President Emmanuel Macron, who has indicated France's intention to recognize Palestine, Albanese has not declared or recognized a Palestinian state as of today, although he supports ongoing international discussions. A two-state solution remains the primary goal of the international community, considered essential for achieving a just and lasting peace.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Australia's commitment to a future where both Israeli and Palestinian peoples can live in peace and safety within secure, internationally-recognized borders. Until that day arrives, he stressed the urgent need to safeguard innocent lives and end the suffering and starvation of Gaza's people.
