VOLOS, Greece – July 27, 2025 – Greece kicked off the Balkan Athletics Championships in Volos with a commanding performance, securing gold medals in both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays on the opening day.

The women’s team, featuring Sofia Kamperidou, Rafaela Spanoudaki, Dimitra Tsoukala, and Poliniki Emmanouilidou, stormed to victory with a time of 43.77 seconds. Emmanouilidou added to her accolades, having earlier claimed gold in the 100m sprint.
In a thrilling men’s race, the Greek quartet of Lampros Volikas, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, Sotiris Garaganis, and anchor Vasilis Myrianthopoulos edged out Turkey by a mere 0.02 seconds, clocking 39.03 seconds. Myrianthopoulos held off a fierce challenge from former world 200m champion Ramil Guliyev to secure the win.
