Kimberly Guilfoyle’s nomination as US ambassador to Greece remains stalled due to ongoing Senate gridlock. Although the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved her nomination on July 9, a full Senate vote required for confirmation has not been scheduled.
The delay stems from a partisan dispute between Democrats and Republicans over nominee confirmations. According to CBS News, Democrats proposed a deal to release billions in funding for international and domestic aid in exchange for confirming a group of nominees supported by former President Donald Trump, including Guilfoyle’s ambassadorial post. Approximately 140 Trump-era nominees, including 30 ambassadorial positions, await Senate votes.
The deal collapsed, and Democrats have stated they will not proceed with confirmations before the Senate’s August recess, which extends until early September. Former President Trump publicly criticized Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, posting on Truth Social, “Tell Schumer, who is under tremendous political pressure from within his party – from the Lunatic Radical Left – to go to hell!”
