The international dog show community has been shaken by news that beloved UK dog show judge and exhibitor Elias Vorrias, is currently in critical condition in Greece after suffering a life-threatening illness while on holiday.

Vorrias, known for his passion and expertise in the show ring—particularly in the German Shepherd and pastoral dog groups—fell seriously ill on the island of Zakynthos, where he was rushed to the state hospital and placed in an induced coma. He has since been diagnosed with sepsis and multi-organ failure, requiring both dialysis and ventilation, and is being cared for in the hospital's intensive care unit.

What began as a seemingly mild infection quickly escalated, catching the family by surprise during what was meant to be a peaceful break. His mother, Maria, and sisters, Jenny and Yiota, have been by his bedside as doctors work to stabilise his condition. The hope is to eventually arrange for Elias to be flown home to the UK for further treatment, including a potential liver transplant—but the journey ahead is both medically and financially daunting.

Friends and colleagues of Elias, moved by his situation and decades of dedication to the dog world, have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the rising medical costs, living expenses for the family in Greece, and the eventual air ambulance transfer required to repatriate him. Since Elias is self-employed as a tiler, and the costs of overseas care and transport are not covered by insurance, the burden has fallen squarely on the shoulders of his loved ones.

“Elias is a generous, kind, and passionate member of our community,” reads a post on the crowdfunding page. “Now it's time for us to show him the same loyalty he’s shown to the dogs and people he’s supported over the years.”
