Renowned singer Giorgos Mazonakis is preparing to file lawsuits addressing financial offenses committed against him, as well as his involuntary hospitalization at Dromokaiteio Psychiatric Hospital.
According to his lawyer, George Mercoulides, in an interview with Sasha Stamatis for the “Secret” insert of Parapolitika newspaper, “Giorgos is bitter, resentful, and feels betrayed, but he remains strong and healthy.” The singer is also gearing up for a return to the dance floors and a likely appearance on The Voice.
“Giorgos Mazonakis will file lawsuits, which he had already planned, for serious criminal offenses committed against him, including financial crimes, forgery, and embezzlement. We are reviewing evidence related to his involuntary hospitalization, and lawsuits will also be filed there, as irregular and illegal actions took place. These lawsuits will target all responsible parties,” Mercoulides stated.
He continued, “Regarding the involuntary hospitalization, other family members were involved. There were no legal grounds for such an action. The law on involuntary hospitalization is clear: the individual must have a mental illness, be unable to care for themselves, and pose a potential danger to themselves or others. A person would need to be severely unwell to justify involuntary hospitalization. In the past two years, his family had only seen him a handful of times.”
Mercoulides added, “Giorgos is bitter and feels betrayed by these events, but he is strong and healthy. As you may have seen, he addressed this ordeal with humor on social media. The doctors and nursing staff treated him exceptionally well and, fortunately, provided him with a private room, which was very important.”
On Mazonakis’ professional plans, his lawyer revealed, “Giorgos is supported by his associates, colleagues, the Papageorgiou family, and the owners of the ‘Fever’ nightclub. He is receiving messages of support from the artistic community and the public. Giorgos is moving forward with his career. An agreement is nearly finalized for him to perform at the ‘Fever’ nightclub, and he is 99% confirmed to appear on The Voice.”
