The Foreign Ministers of Greece and Italy have issued an appeal to the crews of the Sumud flotilla, urging them to accept the proposal of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem for the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, as a gesture of solidarity with the children, women, and men of Gaza.
The joint statement reads:
“We, the Foreign Ministers of the Hellenic Republic and the Italian Republic, call on the women and men of the flotilla to accept the proposal of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to take responsibility for the safe delivery of aid, as an expression of solidarity with the children, women, and men of Gaza.
Thanks to the diplomatic initiative of the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, a tangible opportunity has emerged for the first time to bring an end to this violent conflict and the suffering of the Palestinian population, through full access to humanitarian assistance.”
The joint declaration concludes by stating:
“Greece and Italy reiterate the urgent need for humanitarian access to Gaza and for a ceasefire to be achieved as soon as possible. At this highly sensitive juncture, everyone must refrain from initiatives that could be exploited by those who continue to reject peace.”
