Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced Greece’s readiness to back diplomatic efforts to end the Gaza conflict and establish sustainable governance, in his weekly social media post on Sunday.
“All hostages must be freed immediately, hostilities must cease, and humanitarian aid must be scaled up,” Mitsotakis said. “We are coordinating with allies and regional partners. A two-state solution with genuine security guarantees remains the only path to lasting peace for the region.”
Israel and Hamas have expressed support for a new US-backed plan to halt the conflict and secure the release of remaining Israeli hostages. US President Donald Trump stated that Hamas appears ready for “lasting peace” and urged Israel to stop its bombings, warning of consequences if Hamas delays. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed hope for the hostages’ release “in the coming days.”
Uncertainty surrounds the plan as indirect talks between Israel and Hamas are set to begin in Egypt on Monday. Netanyahu has ruled out a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Tuesday marks the second anniversary of the war’s start. [Kathimerini, AP]
