Six Turkish Nationals in Custody Over Illegal Entry and Weapons

Six of the thirteen Turkish nationals arrested in Soufli, Evros, on October 3 have been ordered held in pre-trial detention following their testimonies on Tuesday, pending the setting of a trial date. The decision was made with the joint agreement of the prosecutor and the investigating magistrate.

The group was apprehended after allegedly entering Greece illegally and carrying a large cache of weapons — including 147 pistols and 190 magazines — concealed in their luggage.

According to statements by the defence attorneys representing three of the accused, the charges include illegal entry into the country, as well as the importation, possession, and transportation of firearms. The six men ordered into custody reportedly denied any knowledge of the weapons found in two suitcases and several bags.

The remaining seven detainees, facing the same charges, are scheduled to testify before the investigating magistrate on Wednesday.
