SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt – October 14, 2025 – President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus introduced a comprehensive initiative focusing on security, Gaza’s reconstruction, and humanitarian aid during the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit, held to sign a ceasefire agreement for Gaza and secure the release of hostages.

Speaking to reporters, Christodoulides emphasized Cyprus’s strategic position as the EU’s closest member state to the region and its upcoming EU Presidency. Building on a humanitarian corridor proposal first presented in Paris in October 2023, the initiative includes six targeted measures across three key areas—security, reconstruction, and humanitarian support—aligned with the U.S. President’s plan.
The Cypriot leader confirmed discussions with the European Commission President and regional leaders over the past 24 hours, underscoring the Commission’s pivotal role. “This is a work in progress aimed at ensuring the implementation of the agreement’s first phase,” Christodoulides stated, leveraging Cyprus’s strong ties with neighboring states to advance the proposal.
