Postecoglou on His Future: “There Have Been No Talks — We Move Forward

Ahead of Nottingham Forest’s clash with Chelsea on October 18, Ange Postecoglou addressed questions about his future with the club, clarifying that he remains fully focused on his work and that there have been no discussions with the management regarding his position.

Postecoglou’s start at Nottingham has been far from ideal. Since taking over on September 13, his side has suffered five defeats and two draws across the Premier League, Europa League, and Carabao Cup — results that have placed the Greek-Australian coach under considerable pressure.

Asked at the pre-match press conference whether his job was at risk, Postecoglou replied candidly:

“No discussions have taken place. We’re just getting on with our work. At Tottenham, I was told we needed to win a trophy and that they wanted to try something different.
Here, it’s a different story to tell. Maybe I’m not a failed coach after all — just someone who, when given time, always ends up lifting a trophy.”

On the Pressure and Perceptions Around Him

“I simply don’t fit in — not necessarily here, but in general. If you look at me through the lens of being a failed coach who got lucky with this job, then yes, these five weeks seem like a struggle. But that’s not the reality.”

On His Time at Tottenham

“My first year at Tottenham was used as justification for my dismissal. Here, it seems the first ten games are everything.
I got them back into Europe, and in one meeting, I was told that winning a trophy was all that mattered — and we did it.”

On His Departure from Spurs

“They said they wanted ‘winners’ and something different. That insulted me because I consider myself a winner.
They finished eighth, without European football. In my first season, we were fifth. Every time Harry Kane scores, I just wish he’d stayed another year — he would have made a huge difference.”

On the Upcoming Match Against Chelsea

“It’s always important to win the next game. We’re facing a very strong opponent, but training has been excellent, and everyone’s returned from international duty in good condition.”

On Criticism and Change

“People might say I’m under pressure, or that things are changing too much. I’m just trying to reshape how we play, and the players are adapting. Some see the negatives; I focus on the growth.
I’m genuinely excited — we’ve got a young group who want to change. I’m not wasting time worrying about what others think.”

On Last Season and Perspective

“If you look at Tottenham’s lineups in the last five or six matches last season, you’ll understand my priorities. Before our final game against Brighton, the players had celebrated for two days — I approved it because they’d earned it.
If people think finishing 17th defines my ability as a coach, they’re looking through a lens I don’t share.”

On Outside Noise

“I’ll do what I believe is right to bring success to this club. I’m not concerned with the noise outside.”
